Data sources

AuroraWatch pulls public scientific feeds and platform services together. We do not control upstream availability—when a provider has an outage, in-app charts and widgets may lag until service resumes.

NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC)

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration publishes real-time space weather products we use for planetary K-index, auroral oval estimates, and near-Earth solar wind parameters.

  • NOAA SWPC — overview and mission context.
  • SWPC Data Services — machine-readable JSON and text products (for example KP time series, solar wind plasma and magnetic field series, and the Ovation aurora model feed).

NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO)

The Solar tab shows recent SDO AIA images at multiple wavelengths. Imagery is served by NASA's public SDO distribution endpoints.

NASA GSFC SDO — Solar Dynamics Observatory data and imagery portal.

Apple WeatherKit

Local cloud cover, conditions, and related context for your selected location come from Apple's WeatherKit where the app requests weather features.

Interpretation disclaimer

Forecasts and visualizations are models and measurements, not guarantees of visible aurora. Always use local conditions, moonlight, terrain, and safety judgment when observing.
